Nissan Repair: 1993 Nissan Altima - Radio/cd player, nissan altima, radio repair

Question
Von,

The radio recently failed in my wife's 1993 Altima. I had the local dealership check it out and they say there is a short in the radio. As the cost of removing the dash and the radio repair would in my opinion not be worth the expense in the hands of the dealership, I wondered if you had any practical ideas for me on how to repair the radio and remove and replace the unit back into the dash board.

Obviously, the cost of the repairs is important based upon the overall value and age of the vehicle. FYI, the vehicle is in great shape, is well maintained with a total mileage of 57,000 miles to date.

Answer
Mike,

Best Buy, Circuit City or your local stereo shop would be a mich cheaper alternative.  If you like to do it yourself you could save money and go to crutchfield.com or your choice on line and do it yourself.  Best Buy and the like will do a cheapie for under $200 installed.
