Nissan Repair: Misfiring problem, nissan maxima, burning oil

Question
I have 91 nissan maxima. It has engine misfiring problem. Specially when I start the car, the engine does not run smoothely as you can feel the misfire. But when I drive the car, it does not misfires as it does while starting. Could you please tell me what could be the problem with it and how much would it cost to fix it?

Thank you
Ramu

Answer
Ramu,

You could put the car on an engine analyzer and discover which cylinder is not working properly.  But, the do it yourself person would change the plugs and wires along with the cap and rotor first.  When the plugs are changed you can discover if one or more is black and covered with oil.  You did not mention if the car was burning oil so I will assume all the car needs is a tuneup.  I would do the tuneup first and if you continue to have problems email me back.  Plugs cost about $2 bucks each and wires another $35 dollars and a cap and rotor will set you back another $35 bucks.
