How do I get to the filter,I have a 1990 Stanza xe, when I put it in gear, it feel like it wants to move but doesn't. Where is the filter located?

Yes, it could be the polyester filter in the transmission.  Go and buy a filter kit.  It will come with a gasket and a filter.  Buy four quarts of dextron III transmission fluid.  Now, jack the car up and use blocks on the wheels and jack stands to support the car.  Remove the transmission pan and the filter is in there.  You will need a large drain pan to catch the fluid.  Use no sealant and install the new filter and gasket.  Do not over tighten the pan bolts as they will leak if you do...  Add three quarts of fluid and then check the fluid.  The car has to be at operating temperature and the car should be in park.  Before you check the fluid put the car back on the ground and run it through all the gears while you are holding the brake.  Now, put it back in park, with the engine running and check the fluid.  Add a little fluid until it is within range.  Do not over fill or under fill.
