Nissan Repair: 1990 Nissan Maxima Drivetrain, lower ball joints, tie rod ends

Question
Something in the front drivetrain/suspension sounds "sloppy" under harsh bumps.  I have maintained the car well and recently(<2 yrs.) replaced the lower ball joints, struts, swingarm bushings, rack and pinion bushings.  I can't figure it out.  Although it doesn't seem to be steering related, could it be the  inner or outer tie rod ends?  Or should I start with wheel bearings?  The car feels relatively good on the highway for 180k.  The noise does seem worse after the car gets very warm. Thanks in advance!

Answer
Kent,

I would first look at the exhaust to make sure that one of the rubber hangers has not broke and the exhaust is hitting the underside of the car.  I have had this happen and it sounds like a suspension problem.  Other noise problems related to bumps can be traced to broken or soft motor mounts.  I cannot see where your suspension would be making the noise as you have replaced all the wear components.  The only thing that could make the noise, other than those indicated, would be the anti-sway bar mounts, if they were loose.
