Nissan Repair: oil leak/engine lockup, nissan bluebird, warning light

Question
greetings!  Have a 1988 diesel nissan bluebird.  after about 100 miles into a trip with no warning light or noticeable sound, the engine locked up.  found that all the oil had leaked out and was bone dry.  Just wondering what may have happened to the engine and what the outlook may be and if it is worth trying to get it fixed.  any knowledge and opinions are appreciated.  Thanks.

Answer
If you can get a used engine it would be best and cheapest.  On the engine that is in the car the crank would ahve to be replaced and most of the rods.  Also, the block would have to be align bored and you probably would have to replace all the pistons.  So, it is most cost effective to go with another engine.
