why does my heater fan work, then it just quits for a few days and then it might start working again.

I would like to know the year, and model and if it has automatic climae control or just the manual version.  Anyway, if it is working intermittently and dies for several days we can assume that it is not the switch or resistors.  So, that leads to the blower motor.  If you have automatic climate control it could be the computer that runs the system.  If you have manual airconditioning take the blower motor out and spin the cage and see if it binds.  If it is binding the bushings and brushes are going and the blower motor needs to be replaced.  If you have automatic climate control you should check to see if you have a bad blower motor first and if the blower is good it is time to get the controller for the climate control.
