There is no good repair. replacing the core is the only way to properly repair it.

Some vehicles are much easier to replace than others. Some require quite a bit of work under the dash.

A manual would be a good idea.
Go to autozone.com and enter the information, and look through the repair literature. it's free.

Heater cores are quite cheap also.

A temporary fix is to bypass the heater core by rerouting the heater hoses. It would make the air conditioner work better during the summer, and then replace the heater core in the fall, before you need heat.
