Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: 87 jimmy, jumper wire, gmc jimmy

Question
i have an 87 gmc jimmy 2.8 it won't start. i changed the coil and pickup coil or pole piece and module and distrbutor cap and rotor button..and all i get is orange spark...checked the wire from alternator with fuse got power on both sides of fuse..checked wires to coil and wires going into distrbtor...just orange spark..could it be the ecm...thank you

Answer
I really don't think it would be the ECM.
I would check the ignition wire supplying power to the coil, and make sure it has 12 volts.
I assume you already checked the plug wires, and are probably checking that spark with a jumper wire to ground?

Other things to check are make sure the distributor is tight, and forming a good ground to the engine.
Make sure the engine block is well grounded at the battery cable, and make sure there is a good ground wire from the intake manifold to the firewall.

All that in place, then get out the manual, and ohm out the coil.
