Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: steering, olds alero, steering wheel

I have a 2000 olds Alero and today while driving something happened to the steering it got real loose and started wandering and it seemed like it wasn't fully turning and the steering wheel isn't aligned anymore. I checked the fluid level and it was fine

Hello Pat,
Sounds like the steering gear may have come unbolted from the body.
Get under the car a watch to see if it moves, while someone else turns the wheel back and forth.
The engine does not need to be running, but the key will need to be in the run position to unlock the steering wheel.
