What is an "ecm" and a "bcm"? Also, what type of scanner are you talking about?-------------------------

I have a 1990 Oldsmobile Delta 88. It sat with a dead battery for about two years in a carport. I have the car running good except for the keyless entry system (which was workinf before it sat with the battery dead). I have twwo fobs and neither will work. I think the entire system lst its programing and needs tobe reprogramed. Can you tell me how do do this?

hi bob, well as this system is actually controlled bye the bcm and not the ecm the assistance of a good scanner will be needed to repair this system.or replace the bcm itself with one from the exact same vehicle.the prom is bad in the bcm.programed read only memory, good luck bob most likely a buddy with a scanner or a dealer..billymac

hi bob,ok a scanner is a diagnostic computer used in repair of auto,s.most people don,t have one but if you happen to have a buddy who is in this line of work .he may have one.if not you have to replace the bcm{BODY CONTROL MODULE}.ALL  OPTIONS ARE CONTROLLED BY THIS PART THE ECM IS THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WHICH ONLY CONTROLS ENG CONTROLS/.HOPE THIS HELPS BILLYMAC
