Oldsmobile/Buick Repair: Car not starting, olds cutlass ciera, neutral safety switch

When i turn the key in the ignition I hear a humming sound and the car won't start.I do not hear a click. Do I need to replace the: Ignition coil, starter or silinoid switch? My car is a 1994 Olds Cutlass Ciera 3.1L. I just got this car a little over a month ago so I don't know the repair history.

Hello Shirley,
The humming may be the fuel pump, which you should be able to hear.
You may just have a loose wire to the starter, or the neutral safety switch may be out of adjustment, just for a couple ideas.
If the humming seems to be coming from the starter, the bendix may need replaced, in which case, a rebuilt starter may be the way to go.
Make sure the starter isn't loose on the engine.
