Pontiac Repair: Belt Tensioner, pontiac grand am, liter engine

Question
We checked the VIN# you provided and it shows that your vehicle is a 1992 Pontiac Grand Am SE with 4 cylinder 2.3 liter engine. Why can't I find a belt tensioner with the bracket all one piece, one that belongs on this car. I have been looking for 2 months now. Is it a difficult part to find ? Two different mechanics told me leave the car they would fix the problem.
They both took the car apart and found that my 1992 Pontiac 4 cylinder, Grand AM that the belt tensioner was part of a bracket and that I would need the whole unit.  The tensioner and bracket are all one unit. Is it possible they don't make the part I need ? All the tensioners  I've seen do not come with the bracket.  (6 cylinder yes-4 cylinder no)  How many different style Pontiac Grand Am's did they make in 1992?? Thank You   Please reply    Bob

Answer
Hi Bob:

I'm not a parts guy so I can't get you parts #'s or naything like that. I seem to remeber that there was a first and second design part on all of the quad engines. sounds like you have the first design amd you will need to get the second design part that is a kit and you will need to change the bracket to match the tensioner.. Not rerally the answer You wanted but it's the best I can do for you.
