Pontiac Repair: 2000 Grand Prix Super Charged, chevron techron, mass air flow sensor

Question
Hello, i have noticed a few different things going on with this car and I'm not sure where to start. The only light that is on is the security light, when im driving the car will start putting and if I stop at a stop light or stop sign it will shut off. Also sometimes the boost will go up like 4 or 5 bars and at that point in time when I push on the gas it won't allow me to raise the speed any further so I have to shut the car off and wait a minute or two and start it back up again. I have been told by a few people it could be the CO2 sensors, but I'm not 100% sure. What do you think it could be from?

Thanks

Kayla

Answer
Hi Kayla:

the light and your issue with it running are unrelated. there is an issue with the passkey system for the security lamp does it happen with both keys or just 1?

as far as the running issue when was the last time the fuel filter was replaced? start there. It may have a mass air flow sensor that is dirty or starting to go bad. I have also see catalitic converters cause issues on thes cars of that era but it's a progressive problem that gets worse and worse and doesn't clear up and then come back again. I would have the car scannned for codes at one of the big box auto parts stores and see what is any codes are stored in any module and if codes are stored it's a really good place to start looking. Another thing you can try is a fuel system cleaner called Chevron techron it works great you can get it any where Wal*mart has it the cheapest. follow the directions on the bottle and add it to a full tank of fuel you may need to bottles if you get the small ones.

Good luck :-)
