Pontiac Repair: 2005 Pontiac G6 GT, deer head, pontiac g6

Question
QUESTION: My car is having several issues at this time. It first started when I hit a deer head on. However, I believe it to be coincidence that all of the issues are happening at one time. My car is going into limp-mode(engine power is reduced). The traction control i
light is coming on and it will not engage. It is also putting out a P1516 code for my throttle body control/sensor. I would appreciate your input in this matter. Thanks

ANSWER: Hi danette:

Does this car have a sunroof? Reason I ask is these have issues with the APP which is the eletronice gas perdal assebly water runs down from a leaking sunroof into the connector for the gas pedal.It will not set the code you ststed but it is an issue on these cars. The code you have is for a sensor issue with the throttle body on the engine. there are 2 sensors in ther and one of them is giving a flase reasing or ther is a wiring issue going to the throttle body. if the car was hit on the drivers side front they could be related a pinched wire of the connetor on the throttle body has a loose connection in it. without seeing it I can't tell you for sure other then the facyt that the limp home and the trouble code are related. good luck :-)

QUESTION: It has the panoramic roof and has had issues with it leaking since I bought it in 2005. It makes complete sense from what you're saying. Would you be able to locate the other sensor for the throttle body for me? I know only of the one connected on it. Thanks again, you have been very helpful with your information.

ANSWER: The sensor is part of the throttle body assembly. It's not service with out buying a throttle body. But Like I said it could have some wiring issues something may have got pinched or tghe connetor on the throttle body may hve ben dmaged depending on how sever the dame was to the car.

QUESTION: I have changed the throttle body on my car and it is still having the engine power reduced issue. It is also not allowing my traction control to engage. I was wondering if you thought changing the accelerator pedal sensor would help resolve my issue. I can reset the code and it drives fine for a couple of drive cycles, but starts reducing power after that. Also, my air has since stopped working. I'm assuming my car is trying to take power where it can spare it in order to function. Thanks for your response.

Answer
Just changing parts on this is not the way to fix it. does it keep setting the same code? Like I stated before this could have a wiring issue or a loose pin fit in the connector at the throttle body. just throwing parts at it with the hopes it's fixed is not an economical way to fix the problem. a drive by wire system which this car has is a pretty complex system and with out the aid of a true scan tool (not a code reader) your going to be stuck. you need to see what the throttle sensors are reading on this that is making it set codes. if it has a broken wire going to one of the sensor in the throttle body it will set a code for a sensor. As for replacing the pedal assembly it's not a likely cause Like I mentioned in the first reply the wiring for the APP has an issue due to water leaks from the sun roof. there is a connector on the left side of the dash that collects water in it and causes pedal codes It doesn't mean the pedal is bad just a wiring issue between the pedal and the engine computer. The computer doesn't know if it's a wiring issue of a sensor issue I just sest the code because it doesn't see what it's looking for. Hope that helps you our some more. You can probably do some digging Via a google search for your car and that code and see what comes up. Just a suggestion. Good luck :-}
