Pontiac Repair: Traction control and abs, pontiac montana, auto parts stores

Question
Tod,
 I have a 2001 Pontiac Montana that when you start the engine the Trac control and ABS light both come on and stay on and after a bit of driving the Trac Control light will go off but the Abs light stays on all the while your driving.Could you please tell me what the problem may be?

Answer
Hi Robert.

There is a hard fault in the system. The most likely culprit would be a wheel speed sensor. Those are the most common faults on those vans. More so a front one then a rear. stop by one of the big box auto parts stores and have then put a code reader on you van and see what code(S) are stored once you know what the codes are it's a starting point untill then it's just guessing. And guessing gets expensive in a hurry. There is no safety concern with that the base brake system will work just fine even know the ABS/Trac lamps are on. good luck :-}
