Pontiac Repair: engine problems, gm dealer, battery cables

Question
hi, i have a 1997 Pontiac grand am se with a 2.4 litter 4 banger and it started to stall on me and i took it to a local mechanic and he said he could find nothing wrong with it. after a while it died on me and now wont start or even turn over. would the problem be with the fuel system? or could it be a more major problem in the engine itself?

Answer
Hey Joe.

well check the basics like the battery and battery cables. do the accy's turn on when you turn the key to run like radio/blower motor power windows? if so try cranking the car over with the trnamission in  neutral with your foot on the brake of course and see if it cranks. I doubt the 2 issues are related but you never know. when the car would die out anything else quit working any of the accy's? that car had ignition switch issues and there was actually a recall for that you can do some digging call any GM dealer and give them your vin# and they can see if the car was eleigable for the recall and if it was ever done. that is a few things to check and to start. good luck :)
