Pontiac Repair: 2001 grand prix 3.1L, fuse boxes, fuel pump filter

Question
QUESTION: I think i have a sensor issue.  Intermittently my car will have trouble starting. Sometimes it wont turn over, then it will start and idle but wont go over 1k RPM's, then if i shut is off and let it sit for 10 min i can restart it and it wont go over 2K RPM's, then I have to shut it off and when I return 10-15 min later it wont go over 3K RPM's.   If i try to force it by stomping on the gas it studders like it is gasping for gas.  Then once the car warms up completely the car runs perfectly, and will do so for days.  And then out of the blue it wont start or turn over at all.  Very frustrating since I just replaced the fuel pump, filter and regulator.  I dont want to throw anymore parts at it..can you help?

ANSWER: Hi Brandon:
when you say it will not crank is ther anything else that doesn't work when the key is left in the "run" position? like radio/windows HVAC fan how about the PRNDLL lamps on the speedo? iss if all of those work or do not work. you may have a power or ground issue going on here possably a bad set of contacts in the ignition switch and it's not fully powering up the fuse boxes and that is why #1 it will not crank and #2 it runs poorly. has any service engine soon lamp come on if so I would have the car scanned for codes at one of the big box car parts stores and see what is stored in the computers memories as far as codes. It could leave a clue as to where to start looking. good luck :)

QUESTION: Well I have had the codes checked and its all blank.  No check engine light at all and the puzzling part is that its so intermittent that often times I cant replicate the problem.  When its spuddering everything else is working fine.  The car acts like it has a rev limiter at times and now it sits in my driveway smelling like gas because it cant get any spark.  More than likely tomorrow it will start up as if nothing was wrong.  This is my dilemma.  Thanks for your help but I have went to many forums and I cant get a clue as to where to start.  Some people have recommended the Crankshaft Position Sensor but that would trip a code if it were out...who knows i guess!!

Answer
It could be a CKP sensor or the wiring between the ignition module and sensor. if this had any engine work donee to it and the harness what not positioned correctly it could have came in contact with the exhaust cross over and melted. I have see rodent damage to that harness as well. The thing is if you smell gas but ther is no spark the engine computer get's it's trigger for fuel deliver Via the ignition module and the ignition modules trigger is the CKP sensor. It's all intertwined.
