Pontiac Repair: pontiac montana keyless entry, montana sv6, pontiac montana

Question
QUESTION: My 2005 Montana SV6 has a keyless entry with remote start feature- the key fob locks the doors but does not unlock and the remote start only turns on the lights but not the ignition.  I have opened the fob, cleaned the contacts and replaced battery - Any suggestions?

ANSWER: Hi Courtney:

My guess would be the fob is bad. usually that is the only reason some of the feature work and some do not. As for the remote start not working that is a bit odd that just the lights come on. Does the van have a service engine soon lamp on when it's running? If so that will lock out the remote start due to possable emissions issues if it keeps running when that lamp is on.. Other then that I don't have a good answer for that.. there could be other codes in modules like the body control modle which controls the keyless entry feature on the van there could be issue there as well. Most of the "big box" auto parts stores will scan you van for free and let you know what codes if any are stored in the van's modules.. Good luck :)

QUESTION: Would it be less expensive to order a replacement online? the dealership wanted $175 for a new fob and $50 to program it.  The check engine light is not on, and I have a feeling it is in the fob, or the fob is not original and the van does not have the start feature.  I only want the unlock button to work.

Answer
I sent you a revision to the answer I saw your second question in the feedback e-mail I received I didn't realize you sent me a follow up question. $175.00 Is STEEP but your in Canada right? try a dealer in the states and have it mailed to you it will sill be cheaper then $175.00 for sure... Usually they are less then $100.00 here depending on what options the fob has it can be a bit more.
