Pontiac Repair: 2002 Sunfire Cooling Fan problem, safe bet, question thanks

Question
QUESTION: Yesterday the engine service light came on. I connected the code reader and it gave a P0480 code (Coolig Fan 1 Cicuit Malfunction). Checked 30A fuse and it was blown. Replaced fuse and car worked Ok. Today took car for a drive; after 1/2 hour or so, the ETS light came on, followed a short time later with the service engine light. Checked 30A fuse and it was blown again. Can you please help.

ANSWER: sounds like the fan is shorting out or you have a power wire for the fan shorting out, if all the wires look good, its a safe bet the fan is bad, probably overheating and blowing the fuse

QUESTION: Thanks very much for your reply Tim.
How can I test the fan to see if it is still ok?
Could it also be a bad relay? How can I test it?
Thanks again,

Russ

Answer
no real way of checking the relay, or the fan since it will work until it blows the fuse, guess the only thing you could do is replace the fuse and let the car run, carefully touch the back of the cooling fan before the fuse blows see if it is really hot to the touch
