Pontiac Repair: clutch woes, clutch master cylinder, plate clutch

hi todd just installed a clutch, presser plate, and slave cylinder in a 97 sunfire. now the clutch won't dissengage to start the car. we blead the slave cylinder, but it still doesn't seem to push the clutch. any ideas, i really don't want to take the whole thing apart again. thanks in advance. paul

Hey Paul:

Was this the problem you were having before or was it slipping? If this what you had going before I would suspect that the clutch master cylinder was bad and you not getting enough of a push when you depress the pedal to move the slave cylinder to release the clutch.  Are you sure the clutch you put in the car is corect for it? was it a cluth kit with a pressure plate,clutch and throw out bearing or was it a piece meal job? were all 3 parts replaced? did you match them up before installing them? one of them may be incorrect for the car??? Without seeing it it's hard tosay what the issue here is. was it a name brand clutch kit you installed here were they o.e.m. parts? If the clutch was slipping and that is why you replaced it then  it's possable too that you were depressing the pedal so hard that it may again have damaged the clutch master cylinder.. was the flywheel turned? if so was it scored up really bad and had to have a lot of material removed if so that could be the issue here as well the difference between wast was removed may be the amount you need to release the clutch.. Those are the only things I can think of here. Good luck :)
