Pontiac Repair: Gran Prix Power Rack r&r, rubber bushing, gran prix

Question
I have a 99 GTP that has a loose steering rack at the bolt on location, it looks like a rubber bushing may be worn out. it moves up and down as the wheel is turned. I can't see if that is the case. How do I go about getting this apart. I can't see too much of how it is attached to the column and the lines.

Answer
Hi Marvin:

You don' need to remove the race to replace that bushing on the right side of the rack. All you need to do is remove both of the mou nting bolts and gently pry the rack up on the right side of the car out of the frame and you can replace the bushing. It's actually a 3 piece thing there are 2 bushings and a metal dowel that goes through thye bushing. You will have to take the front stabalizer bar links off the control arms and move the bar up out of the way to gain acess to the rack mouynting bolts. good luck :)
