Pontiac Repair: 2001 Grand Am GT Intake manifold gasket leak, intake manifold gasket, coolant level

Question
Hi,
I already had the intake gasket replaced 3 years ago under warranty. The dealer recently told me I have another leak from the intake manifold gasket. I can't afford the repair right now. My question is how much damage can I do by waiting and how long would I be able to wait if I keep an eye on my coolant level and continue regular oil changes? Thanks.

Answer
Hi Shawn:

get it fixed now. If it's leaking coolant outside of the engine chance are it is leaking into the engine which is NOT good. coolant and engine oil do not mix and it causes the oil to loose it's lubricating properties let alone the water that's in the coolant mix is not good for the polished metal engine parts. you can keep an eye on it but I don't advise it. this is a pretty common issue with these engines. And they leak when the engine is cold.
