Pontiac Repair: Stalling, crank sensor, pontiac bonneville

Question
1993 Pontiac Bonneville, while driving my car just cuts off, sometimes it starts right back up or I have to sit at least an hour before it starts again and then it drives for a few weeks as if no problem at all. I've been told it's the fuel pump, crank sensor and even bad gas. I need to get it fixed, but don't have a lot of money to explore the problem. What can the probable cause be, maybe I can start there.  Thank You.

Answer
Hi Eileen:

I agree with all the possibilites other than bad gas. when it dies doe it spit and sputter first or is it just like someone turned off the key? If it spits and spitters I would lean more towards the fuel pump. but if it just cuts out I would sway more to the crank sensor or an ignition module. It's just a guess and being that id happens so intermittantly it's hard to drop it off to a shop and hope it happens to them while they have it to drive. That's the hard part about it unless someone see's it happen wher test equipment can be put on it when it stalls out it's hard to find the problem. I'd hate to have to start throwing parts at it in hopes it fixes it. My gut feeling is a crank sensor but that's it just a guess/gut feeling. That controls the ignition system and tells the ignition module that the engine is indeed turning over. Good luck and sorry I can't help you out much more :(
