i have no check engine light
3.1 v6 replace egr valve& gasket
air comes out of the egr valve

Hi, there are two type of EGR valves, one is the conventional, and one is the Digital type. If you have the conventional one it has a vacuum line going to it, this vacuum line comes from a vacuum solenoid, this solenoid could be bad. just unplug the vacuum line at the egr valve, it should stop the air from coming out. and plug the line. If you got got the digital you will have to take it a dealer to have it check because of the special scan tool needed to check it.
