Porsche Repair: Warning lights 91 911 C2, wiring scheme, electrical diagrams

Question
Recently, the seat belt and airbag warning lights both lit up on my 1991 911 C2 Targa, and have stayed on.

I can't imagine two sensors going out simultaneously. The fuses are ok and I don't see a relay labeled for those items. Am I missing something?

I don't have a schematic or any documentation on the electrical system for this car ( haven't even been able to find one to buy.)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Gary.

So when you say..."Any suggestions would be appreciated."...I'll stick my neck out and tell you this...

Sometimes, when I'm stumped on 911 electrical problems (and I too cannot find any electrical diagrams for newer model 911's) I check my 944 manual which does have some pretty good diagrams.  Unfortunately. they don't cover the 91 model year for the 944, so it's a bit of a stretch sometimes to assume the same wiring scheme has carried over for 3-5 years...and then in your case from one car line to another..

But since you asked... Here's two wierd answers:  One 944 diagram shows the seat belt switch wired through something called the door buzzer relay.  Another diagram ('85 911 vintage) shows the seat belt contact wired through the clock relay.  I can't even guess why a clock even needs a relay.

None of the diagrams even mentions airbags.  I wonder if that's so we don't blow ourselves up one fine Saturday morning?  And by the way...when the airbag warning comes on, what are you supposed to do?  Is that one of those...How long can you hold your breath? kind of things?

To say this is as close to useless info would be an understatement.  Sorry I can't even imagine a connection between these two warning lights.

Good luck with this one.

Dave
