RV Repair: Battery hook up, 6 volt batteries, coach batteries

Question
Coach is a 1989 Southwind on a p-30 chasis. the two coach batteries, 6 volt, were replaced, did not write down how they were hooked up. Hooked them up as I remembered and nothing worked, generator, stairs, panel over stove and some lights. Got schematics from Fleetwood and ended up with one wire left over, but only the panel seems to work. What do I do now?

Answer
Bob, It is hard for me to tell you what you have done wrong. When replacing the 6 volt batteries you want the positive wires to hook to one battery and the negative to hook to the other battery. Then hook a wire from the ground to positive of the terminals that are empty. This makes it 12 volt. As for knowing which wires you need to hook to which side, the best thing I can say is to run continuity and see which wires go to ground. I hope this helps, Bill
