RV Repair: RV Roof and interior ceiling repair, rv roof, interior ceiling

Question
QUESTION: I have 29 ft travel trailer that can't be moved and must be fixed where it is at.  The problem is the roof is leaking over the master bedroom and has caused the interior ceiling to sag.  I can't get my trailer off of my land to take to anyone so have to fix this with help of my sons.  We have tried using rubber roof repair but it is not level due to the boards underneath (probably being wet) over the bedroom. I thought we should replace the roof boards over the bedroom and replace the inside ceiling panels but not quite sure.  The bigger issue is last year a friend of mine put a gallon of this black rubber fix it stuff in prior to putting on the sagging section of rubber roof---that weight is causing problems I think on the inside panels along with the previous water leakage.  I was all set to buy a 30 ft section of the roof replacement material and installation kit after we replace the roofing on that end and also have section on the other end over the bathroom area that needs some boards replaced.  Can you offer me any advice?  It is now May and we are planning to do this in late June.  RV is 1995 and great shape other than this.  Thanks for any advice.

ANSWER: Kathy, You can pull the rubber off the roof and then you should be able to see what panels need to be replaced. The roof is screwed to the walls so that makes it better to pull off. When you have them all replaced you can put a new rubber roof on, but you will probably have to overlay with a luan before putting the new rubber on. Thanks, Bill

QUESTION: Thanks for the info---not sure what luan is but will check that out--after further studying it appears that liquid rubber roof might be my best option since it might be easier to apply for 1 or 2 people.  what is your opinion on liquid roof?

Answer
Kathy, I believe in liquid roof so much that it is the only roof product I try to put on every customers roof because I have never had even 1 complaint of it leaking and I have been applying it for over 14 years. Remember that preparation is as important as applying. The roof needs to be clean, I use T.S.P. and then rinsed dried and then I apply vinegar to wherever I will be putting the liquid on because it will etch the surface and make it stick better. When applying it put a thin coat on rubbing well to make sure it is stuck everywhere, then put your thicker coat on and it will level itself. So don't worry about trying to get it all even. I hope this helps, Bill
