RV Repair: RV Batteries, 12 volt batteries, 6 volt batteries

Question
According to my owners manual for my 1997 Komfort 5th wheel, the batteries are wired parallel. No where does it specify 6v or 12v. Since they are parallel, I assume they must each be 6v, right? (I got 2 marine type batteries from an auto parts store during my evacuation during the recent wildfires here in Calif; that is when I realized they should not be 12v each. My meter inside the RV pegged above 15 volts so I am sure I was putting out 24v). Komfort's website is worthless; all they want is sales, not service.
Hope you can help
Thanks

Answer
Hi Rich. Sorry about the fires. I hope you did not loose any property. You may have been park next to my parents. They too were evacuated. They did not loose anything. Thank the good Lord! 6 volt Batteries have three cells. (or three fill caps.) If you pop off the tops and there are six holes....you have 12 volt batteries. The vast majority of trailers use 12 volts. Remove the cables and wire the first battery positive wire to the Pos. on the battery. Wire negative lead to the Neg. on the battery. Then connect the next battery the same Pos. to Pos. and Neg. to Neg. Just like jump starting you car. After you connect correctly. Ck converter for proper operation. See if it still charging. If not. check Fuses on the front of it. You should be OK.
