Saturn Repair: Cruise Control, cruise control module, brake light switch

Question
I have a 1998 Saturn SLE, 1.9L eng. non Cal. emissions.  The cruise control will set, (most of the time).  But after being on it will disengage with a small pop or click.  Sometimes it will reset but will not stay engaged for long.  My repair manual tells me to take it to a dealer.  I'm too stuborn and know I can fix it myself with the correct help.....

Answer
John,
Sounds to me like you need a new cruise control module.  Either that or you need to check your brake light switch.  Have someone stand behind your vehicle while you "play" with the brake pedal.  If your brake lamps come on intermittently (or without pedal input), I would get that fixed first.  If that is not the case, the cruise module is located just above the gas pedal.  It is a black box about 6x4x4 inches big.  It has a plastic cable that connects it to the gas pedal, and three 13-mm bolts that hold it to the dash support.  I would bet that's your problem.  Hope this helps
