Can you attach a picture of the Briggs plug and the Honda plug?

Which key switch do you have?  How many pins are on the key switch?

Do you have a multimeter to measure voltage/

QUESTION: The key switch starts the motor and controls the lights. In all the key switch is the only switch. The tractor does have an amp meter. The output of the briggs and Stratton motor is 9 amps. Motor number model is 331977-0001-g1. There is a red cable that went to the Honda starter. You cannot connect a hot wire to the starter on briggs engine ,but there must be a switch built in the starter on the briggs engine. It has a plug with four wires. The plug on the tractor also has four wires but it will not fit the plug on the briggs. If I can get the tractor to crank charge and shut off with the key switch I can install a separate switch for the lights. Thanks again and please reply.

Answer
Does the key switch have 7 posts/pins?

Download the manual so you can view the wire schematic:

The pins will all be labeled.  When wiring the mower I would start with the big starter wire and connect to the Briggs starter...there should only be one big wire connected to the starter.

Next I would make sure the S pin wire is connect to the starter solenoid.

From what I found on the internet the Honda engine starter solenoid is build part of the starter.

The Briggs and Stratton engine should not have a starter solenoid as part of the starter...you WILL HAVE TO INSTALL a starter solenoid.

Please CONFIRM if the Briggs engine has a starter solenoid or not.

IF NOT, you will need something like this:

You will probably have to cut and install connectors on the positive battery cable to install a starter solenoid and you will have to run the solenoid wire from the front of the engine to where ever you mount the starter solenoid.

Let me know if the Briggs has a starter solenoid or not.  You can send me the Briggs model and type number and I can look up the starter.
