Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): PTO removal Scotts 2554 Garden Tractor, drive pulley, center bolt

Question
Model # CV725S Kohler Engine
Scotts 2554 Garden Tractor
Hi Ben I've written before I cleaned the battery terminals recharged and installed the battery, Mower started within 2 tries.
Disconnected the mower deck and belt, started the mower  the Battery lite went out, I then engaged the PTO switch and the battery discharge lite came on (no load!) I am trying to remove the PTO  to Either repair (very doubtful) or replace,
I was able to remove the lower pulley with one half of the PTO but cannot seem to find out  how to remove the upper half, There were 3 spring loaded nuts which I removed then was able to remove the lower assembly, with a puller, so the upper half is and drive pulley are still attached to the mower,  this has the main drive belt and contains the electrical connection,
as it stands I just cant determine what I need to do to remove the entire PTO assy.
Thanks for your response from a few months ago, I couldn't do much work on the machine as it is mighty cold  here in Michigan today broke sunny and warm so I gave it a shot and am stuck trying to get the rest of the PTO off!!
I truly appreciate the work you fellows do and want to thank you in advance..

Regards

The PTO is usually bolted on with a center bolt that goes to the engine. This engine has a Tapered shaft with a key way, have you checked to see if the key way is sheared? From our experience the PTO is just not feasible to rebuild or repair, your best bet would be to just purchase a new one. Also make sure that the PTO switch is not burnt out either,Bad PTO's Have a tendency to damage switches sometimes.
