Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD / Kohler Charging System, regulator problem, wiring connections

Question
I have a John Deere GT225 with Kohler Command CV15s engine. Battery is not charging and light is on. Have checked all connections and replaced battery.Battery was original from 2000 purchase, pretty impressed. Anyway checked voltage at AC terminals on regulator and measured 0 volts. Checked continuity at AC terminals and read an open circuit. Does this indicate regulator problem or could it be the stator. Also if I need to replace where would I find part #'s?
Thanks

Answer
Try checking the fuses, and make sure that all wiring connections are good if you haven't yet. That is the most common cause of this type of problem. If everything checks out ok, then most likely you will need to replace the stator. As far as part numbers, you will have to use the engine model number to look up the necessary parts. If you have trouble with parts look up, let me know and I can find it for you. Good luck, I hope this helps.
