Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Stratton Spark, briggs and stratton, briggs stratton

Question
QUESTION: I have a old Briggs and Stratton Engine  130202 0135 on a old Ford Tiller. I replaced the Armature, Plug, Breaker Points and Condenser. I had no spark. I disconnected teh ground from the Armature and tried. No I have spark. What would the problem be, any idea?

ANSWER: Hello Brian:

>>If you Disconnected the Armature Groung and have Fire to the Plug, then
>>Check the Cutoff Switch (if Applicable) or Stop Switch at the Other End of the Armature Ground/Stop Wire.
>>Check the Stop Wire for Bare Spots that may be Grounding the Armature also.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/parts.html and Select the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Select the File #13 . Then Select the Folder #130200. **Note: you can Download and Save the Breakdown for your Engine by Selecting the 2nd Icon from the Left at the Top of the PDF page.**
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

QUESTION: The Amrature has three wires coming from it, the spark plug wire, one wire going to the point and the ground wire. Now the ground wire and the wire going to the points are connected together, (how it came from Briggs and Stratton) I was not able to find any start stop switch or cut off, the only way to stop the engine is to ground out the plug

Answer
Hello Again Brian:

>>OK. That Explains a Lot.
>>Disconnect the Point Set from the Ground.
>>This Style Shut Off System Does Not use a Shut Off Wire and there should Only be 1 Wire from the Armature to the Point Set.
>>On the Engines that have a Remote Ground System, there would be a Wire from the Point Set that would go to the Shut Off Switch such as a Key Switch or a Stop Switch (this is Usually a Blade Style Switch) that is Attached to the Engines Throttle Control Plate.
>>The Point Set is Grounded at the Condensor (which is one half of the Point Set) when using the Remote Shut Off System with the Point Set Engines.
>>On the Systems that Use a Solid State Armature (Ign Coil), the Armature/Coil has a Blade Attached that the Shut Off Wire would Attach to to Ground the Ign Coil and Stop the Spark Plug from Firing.
>>As Always, If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.
