Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): engine swap, crankshaft diameter, max engine speed

Question
I have an mtd logsplitter m# 24AF501D700, the 6hp techumseh engine model 195ea is no good.  I have an older 6.5hp briggs quantum with low hrs 120802-0120-D1. I seem to having a difficult time finding rpm info.  I'm interested if knowing if I can replace the tecumseh with the briggs without worrying about damage to hydralic pump.  These two engines seem to be very comperable. Please send me your opinion

Answer
Hello Ryan:

>>You can Swap these Engines with Little Worries about RPM's. The Max RPM's are the so Close to being the Same that it Doesn't Matter with the Exchange you are Making.
>>If you Find the Quantum Engine is a Little Slow on the Max RPM's then,
>>Go to your Local Small Engine Service Center and Purchase a Higher RPM Control Spring (about $3.00us) and Replace the One on the Engine Control Bracket and the RPM's will be Correct. There are 3 to 4 Different Governor Control Springs for these Small Engines and they Change the Max ROM's of these Engines when a Higher/Lower (Longer/Weaker Spring is for Lower RPM's and a Shorter/Stronger Spring for Higher RPM's) Max Engine Speed is Required depending on the Engine Application.
>>These Engine can be Exchanged if the Crankshaft Diameter, Length and Key-way are the Same and if the Mounting Holes are the Same.
>>You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the B. Then Select Briggs and Stratton. Then Select Don't have Part Numbers. Then Select the File # . Then Select the Folder #.
>>You can also View the Tecumseh Engine Breakdown at the Same Site. Just Change the B for a T and Continue from there.
>>If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I Hope to be Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
