Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Replace Piston and Rod But Engine does not turn, ft lbs torque, bolt torque

Question
I have a Tecumseh engine TH139A 8336G.  I have to replace the piston, but the new piston comes with the rod and rings in one piece already.  I replaced the new piston and rod and followed the
arrow direction (arrow facing the exhaust port).  After I put the
piston and rod in the crankshaft, I cannot make a complete turn, off by an inch, I think.  What did I do wrong?

Thanks.

Peter

Answer
hi peter

here is web site for parts id  and positioning
http://www.partstree.com/parts/?lc=tecumseh&mn=TH139SA-8336G&dn=EHSK841HSK8XX833...

did you use  pt number 310291a  kit  piston, rings and rod

is the piston moving to to the very top of bore  y/ n

is the conrod moved to its highest point

are the rings catching on ports  ?

did any of the big end needle rollers get out of position or misaligned?

(1)make sure that the flange of the connecting rod liner faces the flywheel end of crankshaft.(1)

make sure the cast in pin retainer on the piston faces the pto side

there should be 31 needles on the big end , use some grease to hold all 31 needles in place .

the rings should staggered ,   c/case bolt torque should  10 - 17 ft/lbs torque
make sure  governor ball are free and so is governor slide ring and governor arm and shaft

(2) make sure that the c/case cover to cylinder side is aligned perfectly on the pto side by using a straight edge accross faces to align while tightening up after having applied sealer to c/case faces

thats about all  i can think off     recheck  with a note to  numbers  (1)  & (2)
