Tips on Buying Cars: bought a lemon, bumper to bumper warranty, cash cow

Question
I really need some advice. I bought a Jeep 2004, 60,000 miles from a large dealership. Fox dealership and they have many lots. Anyway have had the jeep about 45 days and all of the sudden all the power stopped. No windows, no lights, wipers, everything. I also purchased a 2000 bumper to bumper warranty. They had it overnight and I got a phone call to come down to the dealership. They had pulled my engine out and showed me where the wires had been cut, cobbed jobbed and some were just wrapped up in duct tape hanging lose. They told me that there were fuses missing and the jeep may have been in an accident that was never reported. So here is the KICKER they say its not covered under warranty and its not a lemon. Even though they said they have no idea how it ran as long as it did and that they had no way of knowing the wires had been cut and rewired and who knows maybe it happened after the jeep left the lot. They said electrical is NOT covered but to be nice they will cover some of the bill. I don't know what to do. Its going to cost over 2000 dollars and I will at least they said have to come up with 500.00. I live in NY state. Is there anything I can do? This happened before the 60 days was up. Advice? My zip is 13021.

Answer
Hi Amy,
The dealership knowingly sold you a lemon with no compassion or respect, however the lemon law only applies to new vehicle's you are therefore at the mercy of the dealers goodwill.

You got a warranty, how can it be bumper to bumper when the electric is not covered. I will be interested to know whom the service provider is ?

Selling warranty's through the finance/business office is a cash cow for the dealer , if the provider is not the Mfg of that make it's in my mind 99% of the time not worth the paper it's written on.

You say this happened before the 60 days was up, where does the 60 days fit in ?

Here is how I would approach,,, skip the salesman and manager whom are trying to make this problem go away without having to lose to much profit if any,,, inquire whom the General Manager is for all 4 stores,,, phone for an appointment,,, don't discuss the problem on the phone, you can get brushed aside to easy,,, you simply want a few answers face to face.

Amy,,, if you want to pursue in this manner then email me at paulsenray@yahoo.com with a phone number and I will provide you with a list of questions to ask.
