Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Stihl 260 pro, stroke oil, mix oil

Question
Paul I have a new Stihl 260 Pro when I start it up it hesitates and you have to feather the throttle to get the rpms up. I notice that the chain is hard to pull around the bar but when I put WD40 on the chain and bar it is very easy to pull around the bar and it seems to run alot better.  I am using an off brand bar oil do you think that oil may be to thick?

Answer
hi jason

have you checked that the chain is correct for bar , and is not too tight ?

does the engine run fine with bar and chain off    y / n

does the oil output look ok  with the bar and chain off the saw  - y / n

if not try thinning out with a little kero or chaing type of bar oil

also sounds like the hi mixture screw needs adjusting to be a little richer
basic setting for sthil  hi  and lo  mixtures are  usually  1.0 turns out from lightly seated
1.25 turns out is ok    make sure using  50:1 fuel/ oil mix with good  2 stroke oil
ie  20 mils of oil per 1.0 litre mixed   or  100 mils of oil  for 5 litres of petrol mixed
mix oil and petrol in seperate container before filling fuel tank

if unit runs ok without bar and chain on  its a bar chain problem

make sure chain brake band is not on or dragging on drum ?

cheers paul
