Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 2 stroke - spark plug, spark plug wire, stroke power

Question
Hi Eric
I have a Victa 2 stroke "power torque".
It won't start. I removed the spark plug and cleaned it, etc.
My local guy asked me "Does your spark plug have spark"?
What does he mean? How would I check that?
Bernie

Answer
Several tool manufactures sell inline spark testers used to check to see if the engine ignition system is generating "spark".  If you don't have a tool you can remove the spark plug, re-connect it to the spark plug wire and hold the tip of the spark plug to a metal engine part.  While pulling the string, you should have spark at the spark plug.

Bottom line, he's asking if the ignition system is working.
