Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Tecumseh Motor wont fire, screw out, fuel line

Question
I recently got an old Sears tractor with a Tecumseh OH 140 motor on it; when I first got it it ran but all 3 gears seemed to go about the same speed.  After a lot of looking I found a carb rebuild kit for it and installed the new parts.  I turned the carb float screw out 2 1/2 turns and the new idle screw out about 3/4 trun.  Now the tractor cranks and cranks but doesn't fire; I have sprayed starting fluid in the carb but nothing.  I took out the plug and grounded it to the engine, it produces spark.  I am lost for a solution."

Answer
Hey Jonathan,

Careful with that carb spray that you are using.  Sometimes the caustic substance contained in the sprays can do more harm than good.

You say you have a spark.  SO THE NEXT PLACE TO CHECK IS THE FUEL LINE SUPPLY.  IS THE FUEL REACHING THE CARB?

IS THE SPARK WET OR DRY?

IS THE CARB SET TO MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDED SETTINGS?

IS THE FUEL FRESH?  IS THE CAP VENT PROPERLY WORKING. POSSIBLY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.

POSSIBLY THE GOVERNOR NEEDS TO BE ADJUSTED.

TRY SOME OF THESE AND LET ME KNOW.

SINCERELY,

HOWARD
