Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): john deere walk behind no spark, hp motor, as11

I have a 48" comm. john deere walk behind kawasaki 14 hp motor pull start got it out of my grandpa barn i think it has been sitting for 2-3 yrs. he said long time ago when he parked it he mowed with it and just did a tune up before it got put there for good. Anyways its not getting any spark one code says FC420V-AS11 and another code is E/NO FC420VA09765 there is rust on the magneto i pulled the white wire off the coil i heard that it will disable safteys but i'm getting no spark if you could help i would really like to use my grandpas mower thank you.

You engine has a two piece ignition system.  You a coil and an igniter.  If you disconnect the wire going to the igntion coil you will have no spark as the igniter is not connected.

Coils are less likely to fail than igniter modules but I would check both.
