Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Troy Built Vac/Shredder, vent tube, combustion chamber

Question
I have a 5 HP Tecumseh Troy Built Vac/Shredder, used today about 1 1/2 hrs., cleaned it up before storing for summer. Started it up to run gas out, noticed that lot of blue smoke coming from value vent tube, shut it down and checked oil, it was lower that when I started it up earlier in the day. I cannot find a model no. any where on engine, bought it used, I have had 4 years. I have had no problems other than it would smoke a little when you cut it off.

Answer
Somehow, oil is getting into the combustion chamber, either through the intake, or around the piston. Find the valve spring cover, and remove it. if it's full of oil, then drain all the oil out of the engine, and replace with a half-quart of 10W. *DO NOT* use multi-weight oil! Clean out the valve spring cover, then spray carb cleaner down the carb. Replace the valve spring cover, then remove the spark plug. Pull the cord to rotate the engine quickly. Do this a few times, then replace the spark plug. Prime the engine with a teaspoon of fuel, and try to start it. It should run fine.
