Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Ground wire on coil?, key switch, challenge test

Question
I have a B&S 12.5hp riding mower & if I remove the ground wire from the coil I will get spark & the mower will run but if I plug it in it will not run. I have checked the switch under seat but it still doesn't work. What I need to know is can I run it with the ground wire unhooked? If so will it cause any problems other than the safety switch not working.

Answer
You are correct.  It will not affect anything except you wont be able to turn your engine off with he key switch.

By doing this you have totally disabled your interlock safety system.  This can be dangerous.  The most common switches are located on the transmission neutral, brake, seat, blade activation, clutch, and seat which you already found.

If you up for a challenge, test each switch individually to isolate your problem.
