Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MTD lawn tractor transmission, hp briggs, mtd lawn tractor


Question
I have a Mtd lawn tractor 38 inch deck 7 speed 12 hp briggs eng, The shift lever jumps out the foward gear when i disengauge the cluch when you put it in reverse there is no problem it stays in gear. I have changed the transmission belt with no luck same problem. Do you have any ideas what esle it could be. The MTD MODEL Number is 130-650F there is no plate on the engine all i know is that it is a 12hp briggs & strattion thank's

It is necessary to identify the engine model and serial no. the plate.

I guess it might be somewhere else (than where you have looked).

I have only limited knowledge (& experience)with transmissions.
I do understand that there are 'dogs' which engage the the gears coming out of a particular gear. When these dogs become worn then you can have the type of problem you are describing.  

I believe the 'dogs' might be the problem area you are defining.
