Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Homelite Mightylite blower/vac UT08550, air mixture, stroke oil

Question
I purchased this unit not too long ago.  It seemed to run fine after the first couple of months but now it seems to run with the choke mostly closed.  When I open the choke, it runs slower and slower until it dies.  The choke mechanism is really cheaply made and the adjust screws are special (circular with a very small notch.  Looks like you need a special tool to adjust.  New gas put in and two stroke oil 50:1 ratio (as specified).  This problem seems to have creaped up with the colder weather.  Doesn't seem to be too bad when it is really hot.

Answer
Hello Mike:

How Does this Unit Perform with the Muffler Removed? Usually this is a Sign of a Restricted Exhaust Port or Muffler or the Air Mixture Requires Adjusting. The Newer Trimmers, Chainsaws and Blowers Require a Special Screwdriver to Adjust the Air Mixture. Your Local Automotive Parts Retailer Usually has or can get this Screwdriver for you. Take the Blower with you so the Salesperson can See the Style Screwdriver you are Seeking. Once you have the Screwdriver; The Following is the Instruction File for Setting the Air Mixture Screws. Any Input is Appreciated. The Procedure is the Same for 1 or 2 Mixture Screws, Just Use the Instruction File and Skip Over the Section with the Missing Mixture Screw. Now Setting the Air Mixture Screws:  ****Turn the Idle Air (L) and Main Air (H) Mixture Screws In Until SNUG **Do Not Jam** Then Reverse Both Screws 1 1/2 Turns. Set the Throttle Full Open, Start the Engine. Turn the Main Air (H) Mixture Screw Clockwise Until Proper Revs are Obtained. Occasionally you May have to Turn this Counter Clockwise to Achieve the Proper Revs. Now Allow the Engine to Idle. Set the Engine Idle Screw (Not Idle Air) so the Engine will Stay Running if Required. Now Set the Idle Air (L) Mixture Screw so there is No Hesitation when Throttling from Idle to Full Throttle. Reset the Engine Idle if Required.**** You can View a Breakdown of this Unit at this Site Addy; http://www.homelite.com/service_support and Select Order Parts. Now Select "Click to Launch Homelite Catalog". Now Enter the Model Numbers (UT-08550) and Click Search. Now Double Click on the Model in the Results Area. Now you can View the Breakdowns for this Unit. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
