Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere 160 clutch, john deere 160, generous assistance

Question
David,
20 year old JD 160,blew the belt. After I replaced the belt I began to mow, after about 15 yards the PTO kicked off. I flipped the PTO switch off and back on, PTO engaged, mowed about 5 yards PTO kicked out again. It will keep doing this. Any ideas? Where is the clutch? And do you know if it is adjustable on this model.
Thank you for your generous assistance, Greg S.

Answer
Greg,

Sounds More like the PTO needs to be adjusted For this I would suggest you take it into a JD Service center the reason I say this is if the belt is installed correctly on the Unit and your PTO is doing the wanna kick off then It may be an internal issue with the PTO itself JD can rectify it simply by doing a drive test on the unit itself sometimes the belts can snap and when you replace them they are installed backwards but I would say have the Dealership take a look at the drive for the PTO itself because in this case it would be wiser to see what they think then to make a costly suggestion to you and cause a serious damage to your unit
PTO's are really touchy and tricky to diagnose
then again it could be the wrong belt and incorrect size but we just want to be safe 20 years is well within the operational service duty for this machine
