Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): crafstaman 5.5hp lawnmower starting problem, little smoke, paper filter

Question
QUESTION: My lawnmower was working great until i tilted it to side at around 90 degree to change the blade and after that it wouldn't start.whenever i try to start,a little smoke comes out from the exhaust and the engine pulls back and sometimes it suddenly pulls back while starting and jerks my arm.I noticed that smoke comes out from the air intake too.

ANSWER: Sound to me as if you tilted it to the air cleaner, or carburetor side. This is a common mistake, in the future the rule of thumb is, always tilt the mower if you must with the air filter in the air as the highest point. You drew oil into your cylinder, and may have soaked your air filter too. Remove the air filter, remove the spark plug. pull the rope a number of times till you no longer have oil coming out of the cylinder. The pull rope when starting may be fighting the oil in the cylinder as it can not compress a liquid (hydro lock). After clearing the cylinder of any oil, REPLACE the air filter, and spark plug with NEW ones. once a paper filter has been exposed to oil it won't let air by it. Help it with a little starting fluid in the air filter. When it starts it will smoke a lot till it burns it all out. You mentioned changing the blade, did you hit something? If so you could have sheared the flywheel key too, causing the jerking of the rope, as it would now be out of time firing at the wrong time.........let me know, Tom

QUESTION: Hi Tom!I really want to thank you for taking time to reply my question.I want to tell the things i have e tried:
1:took sparkplug out and cleaned it and looks ok
2:Took cylinder head apart and cleaned it and looked ok
3:took air filter out and tried to run but same thing.Rope pulls back and little black smoke comes out from exhaust and air intake.I was changing the blade bcoz i wanted to put moss out blade. But i think i didn't,t tight the blade enough.Do you think it can cause it?Now as you said the only thing need to check is flywheel. But i tried to take it out but it is sitting tight.I will try to lend puller from somewhere. In the mean time please suggest me something.thanks

Answer
yes if the blade is loose or off a mower it can do as you stated. It needs the even balance to run correctly. I would maybe put the old blade back on if it's in good condition, and then try it. The flywheel can be removed if even pressure is maintained by inserting two large screw drives gently under the fly wheel opposite each other for even pressure, then placing the nut back on the end of the crankshaft just covering the  threads at the top, and giving it a sharp blow with a hammer while giving pressure on the two screw drivers. This is much easier done with two people. Just don't beat the heck out of the threads. ......Tom
