Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Honda Self Propel Not Pulling Well, drive pulley, arinet

Question
Hi John - I see you had the same question on 4/24/07, but I'm not sure they ever replied after you asked the person for the Model and SN.  Anyway, I have a Honda Harmony II, self-propelled 3-speed that is 5 or 6 years old.  Last summer, my wife surprised me by mowing the lawn one day when I was having a very busy week and couldn't get to it; although, she then complained that it stopped pulling itself (she said she did work the clutch properly).  I checked when I got home and the transmission was spinning the wheels (and appeared to be strong) when I lifted the rear end, but didn't have the power to turn the wheels when I sat it down.  It seemed to be just a little better the next week; though, I had to help it a good bit by pushing - and I continued to do so the remainder of the season.  I see it has a belt; though, there is no mention of it in the manual.  Is there a way of tightening the belt - or would you think it just needs replacing?  If so, is this something I can change myself and can you please explain how?  The Model No. is HRT2162TDA and the Serial No. is MZCG-6716356.  Thank you very much for your time and knowledge.  Rodney

Answer
Hello Rodney:

This Sounds like a Bad Drive Belt. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower/Engine at this Site Addy, http://hayward.arinet.com/scripts/EmpartISAPI.dll?MF&app=ASP&lang=EN&TF=Mainfram... and Select the Catalog American Honda. Select the Mower File and Scroll to your Model Mower (HRT216K2 TDA). Then Select the Transmission File. The Spring (#4) Keeps Pressure on the Belt. There is No Other Adjustment for the Belt. The Belt and Drive Pulley on the Crankshaft are in the Blade File. The Belt is 36.3in in Length and .375in Wide. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Thanks.

Good Luck
