Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Snowblower Axle, mtd snowflite, pin hole

Question
I recently was given a MTD Snowflite 8/26 snowblower. It is vintage 1970's, I used it as a teenager! Sorry, model numbers hard to find...It still starts & runs great. Auger/thrower fine, but tranny stopped engaging. I pulled axle cover, all seems to engage correctly, springs & levers servicable. The Axle seems to have seperated about an inch, pushing wheels apart further and not letting gears engage axle? Looks like there is an empty pin hole of some type on the axle. That may have held a connector of some type?

Is there an easy way to "rejoin' the sides, and repin it?

I know this thing is well past its life cycle. Any thoughts?

Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Any piece of equipment that lasts that long is well worth fixing,as long as the parts are avalivble.First of all that blower was made by White and now it is MTD I have enclosed a parts diagram to help you out. I beleive that this may be your model # 315-800-190 or maybe 500 on the end
