Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Lawn Tractor 917.271660, craftsman lawn tractor, transmission pulley

Question
Hi There. My tractor runs but does not go forwards or in reverse. I looked underneath and noticed that v drive belt is not on the transmission pulley. I'm aasuming the engine turns that belt which in then turns the transmission pulley.I'm hopping that it's not the tranny. The tractor is only 5 years old. Whats the life of these trannys? Also, can you tell me where I can get a repair manual. Thanks!

Answer
Hello John:

You are Correct. The Belt Turns the Pulley and the Pulley Makes the Transaxle Move the Mower. Reinstall or Replace the Belt and Make Sure the Belt Guard is Set to 1/4" from the Outer Edge of the Pulley. When the Belt Tension is Loosened, the Guard Prevents the Belt from Jumping Off the Pulley.
