Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Peerless Transmission cover broken, transaxle, happy holiday

Question
I have a peerless transmission p930-036 for a 4 wheel steering Scotts by Noma (1992) that the upper case cracked where the shaft goes through for the 4 wheel steering. Can this be welded and end up strong enough not to crack again or is it best to replace the cover?  I have not gotten an estimate to weld it but a new cover seems to cost about 150.00 Thanks, Ron

Answer
Hello Ron:

I have Welded the Transaxle Housings before and have had Good Results. The Person Doing the Welding Needs to be a Very Good Aluminum Welder. The Cover (PN 772109A) is Listed for $143.81 at Outdoor Distributors. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of this Engine at this Site Addy, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Select the P. Then Select Peerless. Then Select To View Parts List Click Here in the Upper Right of the Page. Then Select the Series Transaxle. Then Select the Transaxle File for your Transaxle. If you Hit a Snag or this Does Not Correct the Problem,  I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Hope this Helps. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Have a Happy Holiday Season and May the All Mighty Bless You and Yours. Be Safe and Happy. Thanks.

Good Luck
